It’s been quite a journey as I’ve learned how to make them work for my affiliate marketing business…
Today I want to tell you about my experiences both good and bad…
But first I’ll tell you what Solo Ads are…
What Are Solo Ads?
A Solo Ad is a paid email with your offer and link that’s sent to a vendor’s email list…
It’s kind of like paying someone to do a single email marketing campaign to your offer…
You decide how many clicks you want to pay for up front with the Solo Ad vendor…
The vendor then sets a time frame of when the campaign will run…
Depending on how many clicks you purchase, it could take a week or more for all of the clicks to come in…
I’ve found the average price is around 35 cents to 75 cents per click…
Sometimes the vendor will write the email for you, other times its up to you to supply the email copy…
My Solo Ads Story
I first heard about Solo Ads in Russell Brunson’s DotComSecrets book back in 2016…
At the time, Facebook ads were all the rage and I jumped on that band wagon…
Affiliate marketers were crushing it with Facebook and I also found moderate success…
But as time went on, Facebook started changing their algorithm and affiliate offers didn’t work so well anymore…
I found most of my success in affiliate marketing through search engine optimization…
A couple of my blog reviews started ranking in the number one position on Google which generated some nice sales…
I’ve stated before that SEO can be a slow burn method and it can be costly if you want faster results…
So, in my search for better way to create more affiliate income, I was re-introduced to Solo Ads…
Another affiliate began posting about how he was having great success with Solo Ads and I reached out to him…
That was in January this year…
Over these last 5 months I’ve invested a little over $800 in Solo Ad campaigns…
My experience has taught me a few things about this paid traffic method…
Understanding The Goal Of Solo Ads
One thing I didn’t understand about Solo ads is that the main goal is to build my email list, not make a sale up front…
I actually got a few sales on the first run I ever did…
This created a false expectation and after running a few more ads and not getting any results, I got discouraged…
So I had to adjust my mindset and expectations for immediate sales…
Once I started seeing Solo Ads as an investment, I realized its a great way to grow my email list…
But, you need to also understand your audience so you’re getting the right people on your list…
Understanding Your Audience
One of the attractive parts of Solo Ads is that these people are almost always looking for a way to make money online…
This is perfect for affiliate marketers, but not everyone looking for a biz-op is going to be right…
Now that I have some campaigns under my belt I’ve come to realize there are two factors of your audience to consider…
Factor 1: Traffic Quality
The first factor is the traffic quality of the audience…
Traffic is broken up into three “tiers”…
Tier 1 is typically premium traffic because these people are from wealthier countries like the United States and Canada…
Traffic from Tier 2 is still good but these folks usually come from countries where there isn’t as much money…
Tier 3 traffic is just garbage and you need to avoid it honestly…
This is something you can evaluate as you search for a good Solo Ad vendor…
Most of the good vendors will have information available on the tiers they send offers to…
In my personal experience, you pay a bit more for tier 1 traffic, but its usually worth it…
Factor 2: Level Of Expectation
The second factor (and most important to me) is the audience’s level of expectation…
Regardless of the tier, there are people who suffer from what I call Shiny Object Syndrome…
These people are looking for get rich schemes that require no work and no investment…
They are usually desperate for money and if they don’t see instant results, they will cancel or bail out…
I want people signing up to my list or buying my offer who understand they are making an investment…
So for me, I don’t make outlandish promises with my offers…
I try to establish credibility and remain honest with the level of expectation for results…
This filters out a lot of people for me, but I don’t give up on them…
Instead, I’ve learned how to become a good email marketer…
Becoming A Good Email Marketer
The truth is that a large portion of people who sign up for your offer won’t be ready to purchase yet…
This is why Solo Ads are primarily for building an email list…
It’s very important that you learn (like I did) to have a good email follow-up campaign set up…
You want to have this in place before you run your ad so that you maximize the return…
It’s also very important that you develop a habit of emailing your list on a regular basis…
Just because someone doesn’t buy one offer doesn’t mean they won’t jump on another offer…
Also, you must be willing to nurture those people who do sign up for your offer…
Don’t just sell them and then forget about them…
I personally reach out to each person and give them an opportunity to ask questions and give me feedback…
It’s worth the extra work to stay in touch with your email list…
They get to know you and you get to learn what affiliate offers convert best…
Test, Test, Test Different Solo Ad Vendors
Another important thing I learned is to test several different Solo Ad vendors…
Just like with any industry there are some great Solo Ad providers and there are some scam artists…

For me I believe I’ve found a sustainable paid traffic source using Solo Ads…
As I continue to grow my email list and become better at email marketing I am confident in greater ROI…
I still invest in SEO and I can see the fruit of using both methods in my business…
